The 6th meeting of the Council on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) was held under the chairpersonship of Secretary Social Welfare / Vice Chairperson of the Council, Ms. Saira Umar, in the light of directions issued by Provincial Minister for Social Welfare & Bait-ul-Maal Punjab, Mr. Sohail Shaukat Butt. During the meeting, a seven-point agenda was presented and discussed in detail. The agenda included the issuance of Himmat Cards for students of Special Education institutions, a proposal to request additional funds from the Finance Department for the inclusion of more Persons with Disabilities in the Himmat Card program, and the review of the recruitment situation to strengthen the functioning of the Council along with the provision of additional supporting staff. The Council was also informed about invitation letters received for the participation of Persons with Disabilities in international competitions. Moreover, emphasis was laid on data sharing to ensure effective implementation of the 3% job quota for Persons with Disabilities in government institutions. It was further decided that meetings of the Council’s sub-committees will be held regularly to ensure effective progress on related matters. Director General Social Welfare / Secretary of the Council and other officers also attended the meeting.
