The Social Welfare Training Institute (SWTI) was initially established as Child Welfare Training Institute in 1963 for capacity building. Keeping in view the need for training on basic concepts and techniques of social welfare as considered imperative both for professional and voluntary social workers ,it was subsequently renamed as Child Welfare and In-service Training Institute during the year 1966-67. It is presently known as Social Welfare Training Institute.
Objectives
SWTI aims at preparing a team of professionals and voluntary social workers for the establishment and running of efficient and cost-effective social services in voluntary and government sectors.
To impart training and education in professional techniques of Social Welfare and Community Development which could best suit the socio-cultural norms and values of Pakistani Communities.
- To organize pre-service and in service training courses for the new recruits and on job officers and officials of Social Welfare Department.
- To arrange short courses for the service staff and office bearers(local leaders) of NGOs in order to train them in organizing their voluntary social work efforts in an effective way and develop leadership among them.
- To organize long term training courses for child care workers to meet the demand of NGOs and provide trained manpower to run child welfare services, orphanages etc. for maintaining minimum standards.
- To conduct training courses for training the trainers of District Industrial Homes (Sanatzar), who could on return to their respective training centers impart training to poor women and help them raise their family income and improve the health and nutrition status.
- To conduct research and studies on various subject relating to Social Welfare which could help enhance knowledge about Social Welfare and disseminate to others for development of new ideas and programs in the field of Social Welfare.
- To devise a regular follow up evaluation system about the effectiveness of training imparted at the institute with a view to improving upon the teaching methods, revision of syllabi and introduction of new subjects into the courses.
