Assessment & Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities

 

Council on Rights of Persons with Disabilities

Council on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) is constituted under Section 19 of the "Punjab Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Act 2022" while repealing the old legislation “Disable Persons (Employment & Rehabilitation) Ordinance 1981". The CRPD is a 28 member body headed by the minister SW&BM as chairperson. 

District Assessment Boards

Under Section 27 of the Punjab Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Act 2022 has established Districts/Tehsils Assessment Boards in all districts of Punjab to assess the nature and extent of disability and to issue disability certificate. These boards are working in all District Headquarter (DHQ) Hospitals and Tehsil Headquarter Hospitals of Punjab. The Assessment Boards hold meetings fortnightly basis.

Method for Submission of Application 

Any person residing in the territory of Punjab having disability may apply for assessment and issuance of disability certificate on “Disable Person’s Management Information System” (DPMIS).In case of any difficulty please visit office of the Medical social officer at DHQ & THQ hospitals of your district. For further information you  may contact the Deputy Director social welfare & Bait-ul-Maal of your district (List attached).

District Welfare & Rehabilitation Units

Under section 24 of the "Punjab Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Act 2022" District Welfare & Rehabilitation Unit have been established in each District headed by concerned Deputy Commissioner.

Financial Assistance

Any Person with Disabilities who is assessed by Assessment Board and declared as 'Not Fit For Work' and having no source of income is entitled to get financial assistance from District Welfare & Rehabilitation Unit as per approved criteria. 

Facilities

Following facilities are being rendered by the District Welfare & Rehabilitation Unit:

  • Free Medical Treatment
  • Provision of Free Artificial Limbs
  • Provision of Free Wheel Chairs, Hearing Aids etc.
  • Financial Assistance
  • Employment Opportunities through Private Establishments etc.
