Department has established total 113 Medical Social Services Units (MSSUs) in Tertiary level hospitals at divisions and Secondary level Hospitals at district (DHQ) and Tehsil (THQ) all over Punjab with the objective of providing assistance to needy and destitute patients.
MSSUs are providing free medicines and treatment expenses to the poor patients through Health Welfare Committee and Patient Welfare Society. Heath welfare committees work under the rules of Zakat Department and funds are utilized as per manual/rules issued by Zakat Department.
Patient Welfare Society (PWS) is a registered NGO which arrange funds for needy patients with the help of philanthropists. When government funds are not available , medicines or treatment expenses are met by the funds of PWS.
Medicines & treatment involves huge expenses are referred to Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal.
Eligibility Criteria
Deserving and destitute patients are eligible to avail the facilities of Medical Social Services.
Services
Following services are provided to the destitute patients:
- Preparation of case histories of deserving patients.
- Assistance of deserving outdoor & indoor patients for medicines, treatment.
- Registration of blood donors & collection of blood donation
- Psycho-social support of patients and their families through counseling.
- Vocational trainings for deserving patients
- Arranging gifts for deserving patients on different religious & national / International events
- Referral of deserving patients for suitable jobs after recovery
- Follow up of patients for their rehabilitation.
